how come we don't say i love you enough till it's too late
the wind rang throughout the gorge, causing a whistling in every cats ears that would eventually drive them all positively nut if it kept up. especially those unlucky enough to have huge ears. for once, rainstar was glad not to be one of them. her paws batted the air in front of her as a fly flew past her nose. she crinkled her nose angrily and let out a frustrated hiss. she stood in the shade made by the gorge, her body comfortably warm in the newleaf weather. rainstar was actually in a better mood today then she'd been since the death of her old deputy, eaglescree. her new deputy, mountainstorm, took care of her clan like she hoped he would. it allowed her to have little outings like these. she rarely spared anything for herself, for fear that she might dwell into the pain that caused her to be so cold.
today, though, she felt none of that earlier pain. she could smile and flick her tail in a kit like manner, the way a happy cat could. she could leap into the air fur fun like she never could before. rainstar was at the head of her clan and she had never been happier. she could devote herself to her clan and not have to worry about love for anyone specific holding her down. she could love each cat equally because they were her clan. that meant alot to her. from birth, rainstar had never been expected to do anything useful.
suddenly and with little thought, she sprang into the air. her muscles bunched and released in perfect syncronization. she purred in ecstatic joy, loving the feel of acting like a normal warrior. she sprang nearly two feet into the air, her long legs aiding her in a perfect jump. her paws slashed at the air as though it were here prey. and all ended with a perfect land upon all four paws and in a neat crouch. she smiled, half to herself. then her ears picked up a disturbance in the air. she flicked her ears, trying to better pick up the sound over the high winds. another pawstep, made miniscule in the wind, sounded in her ears. she didn't even turn to greet the incoming cat, knowing it was indeed no feirce cat from another clan.
i can hear you. she purred.

darkleap had had enough of today's warrior duties. first she was out hunting, then she was expected to go on patrol. of course, there was reason. there was a shortage of warriors, but why make the poor girl suffer anymore than she already had? a breeze picked up and ruffled the dark she-cat's fur, her amber eyes gleaming as she picked her way around the territory. having just eaten, darkleap knew that any prey she found would either have to be brought back to camp, or left for another day. deciding against intending to catch anything, the plain tabby she-cat picked up her pace and finally reached the sandy gorge, surprised to see rainstar lazing about.
i suppose she's got nothing better to do. the shecat shrugged and padded towards rainstar, her tail curling as she took place beside her leader. "well that's quite alright, i wasn't trying to hide from you." she purred lightly, whiskers twitching in amusement. "so how goes things, rainstar? i see you aren't busy, which must mean that things are going splendidly for us." were they? or had the skyclan cats just been trying to convince themselves this whole time? either way, as long as darkleap wasn't getting the short end of the stick, it wasn't her concern.
- sorry it's short, trying to hurry before the computer dies xD
